The Kitchen Ending Explained: Is Izi Really Benji's Father?

In the film, Izi starts thinking about getting a double occupancy apartment with Benji so they can both live together and leave The Kitchen estate. While Benji is staying with Izi, Benji tells Izi that his mother told him about who Izi really is. The next day while they’re eating breakfast together, Izi tells Benji he has to leave but doesn’t return, so Benji goes back to Izi’s apartment alone. Then, we see Izi arrive at his new, single-occupancy apartment by himself.

The Kitchen is raided and Lord Kitchener is killed

Soon, The Kitchen housing estate is raided by the police again who begin seriously injuring and arresting residents. Ruby, Benji’s love interest, runs back to her flat where her mum is attacked and taken away. So, she runs to Benji’s apartment and they wait for the raid to finish. The police soon arrive at Lord Kitchener’s flat where they brutally attack him, which can be heard through his microphone airing to residents of The Kitchen. Later, residents are clearing up after the raid.

Staples riots in London

While Lord Kitchener’s funeral is held at Life After Life, where Izi works, Staples, Benji, and their group leave The Kitchen and begin rioting in London, as revenge for the killing of Lord Kitchener and attacks on residents. Staples and Benji break into a family’s apartment where Staples trashes the place and threatens the residents, and Benji runs away back to his mum’s old flat.

Izi and Benji go back to The Kitchen

At the flat, Izi arrives to which Benji pushes him away and tells him to leave him alone. But, Izi stays, apologizes, and gives Benji his mum’s plant from Life After Life. Soon, they go back to The Kitchen together on Benji’s bike and depot the plant. Back at Izi’s flat, as they look on at the chaos outside, Benji then asks Izi if he is his dad, and Izi nods. “Would you want me to be?” replies Izi, to which Benji says, “Let’s just see how it goes.”

Is Izi really Benji’s father?

Yes, at the end of the film when Benji asks Izi if he is his father, Izi nods confirming he is Benji’s real father. Earlier, Benji also told Izi that his mother said his father lives and works in The Kitchen at Life After Life, making it clear that Izi has been Benji’s father all along.
